SUMMARY
QS4CF was focused on the investigation of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on targeting Quorum Sensing (QS) signaling molecules for certain pathogenic bacteria such as P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, the most common pathogens isolated overall for nosocomial infections. They are antimicrobial-resistant microorganisms and comprise multidrug-resistant types.
The project has delivered monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies necessary for the detection of specific QS molecules of both bacteria and developed ELISA assays for them to be used with diagnostic purposes. Moreover, conditions have been established to conduct Quorum Quenching studies based on the cytotoxicity exerted by QS signaling molecules and QS-regulated virulence factors on MH-S macrophages, with the objective to test the therapeutic potential of monoclonal antibodies targeting these QS molecules.
